Karen Kreider Yoder is a teacher educator and literacy coach. Her work is based on her 30 years of teaching kindergarten through fifth grade in urban and rural schools, both in the US and in Japan. She teaches courses in elementary literacy, elementary methods, and children’s literature to pre-service teachers. She incorporates children’s literature, writing instruction, and reading strategies in all her coursework. She currently serves as a literacy coach in an elementary school in San Francisco. She holds a masters in Reading from Indiana University Bloomington, and a doctorate in Learning and Instruction from the University of San Francisco. Karen works with children and youth each summer in a weeklong summer camp south central Kansas, where she focuses on a variety of topics. Karen and her husband have three grown boys. She delights in making comforters for refugees, cooking for large groups of friends in her home, riding a tandem bike, and traveling to remote places.
